Ada, Beyond the Image is both the script for the show of the same name and an artist’s book offering a unique typographical and photographic interpretation. The photographs of caves, mineral memories sculpted by time, contrast the cold logic of artificial intelligence with the depth of a raw, unpredictable trace that defies all calculation. They reveal the essence of the world: a patient matter, inscribed in time, vaster than our own programming. The story is inspired by the scientific, philosophical and poetic research of mathematician Lady Ada Lovelace (1815-1852) and contemporary scientists Michèle Gouiffès and Behnoosh Mohammadzadeh (Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Digital Sciences LISN CNRS Université Paris Saclay), Tina Nikoukhah (École normale supérieure Paris Saclay) and Joy Buolamwini (Massachusetts Institute of Technology MIT).

Ada, Beyond the Image is a poetic and philosophical journey into the heart of a hyper-programmed world. It explores a disturbing reality: that of artificial intelligence that does not recognise certain women’s faces. Fuelled by biased data and shaped by male perspectives, the machine sometimes fails to see. Ada, a computer engineer, is thus confronted with her own invisibility. Faced with an AI embodied by a man and a choir, she seeks to correct the distortions of a system that denies her image. This sensitive dialogue between woman and machine gradually becomes a profound meditation on identity. From the coldness of algorithms to the first handprints on cave walls, it traces our ancestral need to leave a mark, to be seen, to be recognised.
