Werner Moron’s work occupies the public space: the voice that wears itself out, the body surrendered to performance, the immediate impact of the painting. But in the interval between these bursts of activity lies the silence of the studio. Hundreds of sheets, scraps of paper and spontaneous sketches accumulated over the years. This book seeks neither to preserve a record nor to present a conventional retrospective. It arose from a friendly foray into the artist’s drawers. Guided solely by intuition, Hématomes Publishers have roused more than 200 drawings from their slumber. Here we discover a language that is more raw, more secret. The line is free, at times violent, often vulnerable. This is a glimpse behind the scenes. The blind spot of a major body of work, brought to light by the pure subjectivity of an editorial eye.

The book was produced entirely independently in the publisher’s studio. Only the cover, designed and typeset on a Linotype machine in the artist’s presence, was produced by Imprim Group.
